Full of potential…that is how I feel about myself. There are so many things that I can envision myself doing, but rarely do I take the opportunity for any of it to become a reality. I always say to myself...
"one day”. As a stay at home mommy, it’s easy to lose your identity as an individual. You are so many things for so many other people, but what are you for yourself?
Today I decided to do something for me. I’ve been traveling down the path to acquire true health for quite some time now. I’ve made the necessary food changes, but have yet to add in exercise. I know with a one year old and three year old I feel like I’m constantly exercising, but I mean truly exercising. I mean becoming stronger from the inside out. I had the opportunity to join a local POUND class, and for once, I decided to take it.
Let me start by saying, this is totally out of my character. I usually hate social settings where I don’t know anyone, because it makes me feel isolated and awkward. But against my usual instinct, the same instinct that usually holds me back, I decided to take a leap of faith. I decided that I needed time for me,away from the house (where I’m pretty sure I’m growing roots). Let me also add that I know nothing about POUND, except for watching it on the hit TV show, This is Us!
So I optimistically walked in to class with my stretchy pants and practically brand new sneakers. I wondered if I would make a fool of myself, or if this would be just what I needed. Well the only way to know, is to try. So I tried. It was fun. It was exercise. It was nice.
I’ve always considered myself a little slow at catching on to routines and such…and this held partly true today. It’s very noticeable when you are off in POUND, because everyone hits their sticks at the same time. Therefore if you are off, you are the only person clicking your stick at the wrong time! (Only had a few of those) But when you are on course with everyone else, it’s magical. You find a rhythm and just settle into it. The music is the frosting on top! Who doesn’t love music when they are exercising?
I think POUND is just what I need. It is time for me away from the house. It is a chance to exercise, and have fun doing it. I look forward to continuing to go to these classes. I look forward to setting out a little time each week for just me.
Some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten, and given, was that you can’t take care of others, if you don’t take care of yourself. I encourage every mom to try something new, just for you. Whether you try POUND or not, find something that you enjoy, and just do it. There is potential in all of us, sometimes all we have to do is pound it out!
